A Van Halen legendás gitárosa 65 éves korában hunyt el október 6-án. Eddie Van Halen 65 éves volt, régóta torokrákkal küzdött, az orvosai szerint az utóbbi három napban rohamosan romlott az állapota, szervezete pedig végül feladta a küzdelmet. Noha évekig rengeteget dohányzott, szerinte a daganatot nem ez okozta, hanem az a fémből készült pengető, amit több mint húsz évvel ezelőtt gyakran a szájában tartott. Az tavaly októberi hír volt, hogy a gitáros rendszeresen Németországba repül a sugárkezelésekre.
A zenész halálakor ott volt mellette a felesége, Wolfgang fia és a testvére, Alex Van Halen is egy kaliforniai kórházban. A hírt fia, Wolfgang Van Halen is megerősítette, aki Instagramon azt írta: édesapja ma reggel elveszítette a rákkal vívott hosszú és fáradságos harcát.
