A legendás zenész 1963 januárjában csatlakozott a Rolling Stones tagjaihoz, Mick Jaggerhez, Keith Richardshoz and Brian Joneshoz. A tragikus hírt Bernard Doherty publicista tette közzé tegnap este:
„Mérhetetlen fájdalommal jelentjük be szeretett Charlie Wattsunk halálát. Békésen hunyt el egy londoni kórházban a mai napon, családtagjai körében.„
A Rolling Stones három hete jelentette be, hogy Watts nem tart velük a szeptember végén induló amerikai turnén, mert az egészségi állapota ezt nem engedi. Közleményükben akkor azt írták: a dobosnak több időre van szüksége, hogy felépülhessen egy meg nem nevezett orvosi beavatkozás után.
